Welcome to September 2023’s Going Green Together newsletter. Our campaign supports VCSE organisations in the North East and Cumbria on their journey towards Net Zero.

Our Become Green Together programme — the first of its kind, offering environmental support to voluntary and community organisations to become environmentally sustainable — will soon be closing its doors to new applicants.
We’re supporting over 70 organisations to tackle climate change and prepare for the future. This pilot scheme is helping to build a foundation for a greener, more resilient sector. By taking part, you’re also helping us to shape future support for voluntary and community organisations like yourself!

Cause for great concern as sea surface temperatures reach all time high— Durham Wildlife Trust

£6 million investment to trigger new phase for UK nature recovery — Northumberland Wildlife Trust
The Wildlife Trusts have unveiled a new programme which will accelerate UK nature recovery and help to reverse catastrophic declines in wildlife. £6 million from the Ecological Restoration Fund will support rewilding projects, the reintroduction of keystone species and better protections for marine and coastal habitats. Customer and community investment fund — LNER
LNER’s funding provides up to £50,000 of funding to charities, customers and communities around their routes, and includes funding for environmental initiatives. Find out more through their website.
Communities at the heart of new fund to boost local growth and energy security — Department for Energy and Net Zero
Rural and local communities across England will be supported in setting up local energy projects that will provide local jobs and deliver energy security, thanks to a new £10 million government fund. Read more through the gov.uk website.
Veolia environmental trust fund — Veolia
Veolia awards grants towards projects that make improvements to community facilities and the natural environment, of £10-£70,000. The deadline for the current round is the 5th October. Find out more online.
The impacts of nitrogen pollution — Social Association
